The creative environment in the Open Design Academy derives from the possibility of communication and the exchange of ideas – working together in a vast, flexible studio space, students of all art forms strengthen their potential by learning from each other.
Babel underlies a very distinct manifesto: building cost-efficiently, expanding the public exterior space into the building interior and consisting of a simple, yet vast super-structure. Multiple disciplines are housed within a large and flexible studio space, which can be partitioned into smaller studios offering around the clock accessibility. Despite its vast space, every student is allocated to a small-scale private space that can be used personally.
With these spatial objectives in mind, the resulting concept reminds of an industrial building suitably referring to the industrial heritage of Montreuil.
